Session 36 - Geek Convention... FIGHT! (Part 1)

Key Points:
  • Aria visits a weapon smith in Little Musashi called Masamune.
    • Friends with the owner, she receives a blade called Kakusareta. The owner calls it a birthday present, but likely charges Aria's father's account.
    • Aria learns that a ROGUE agent, Lukas Baer, was inquiring about battojutsu, iajutsu, and other hengeyokai swordsmanship styles at the Masamune.
  • Kembu and Managirl discover a message left for them...
    • Kembu's master, Borei, killed six dwarves who were waiting in ambush at Lisa's apartment.
    • Kembu seemed fond of Borei, though Borei seemed to be a 'hard' master, though it was clear that he held some pride for his protege.
    • Kembu reveals what he has been doing in Babylon to his master. Borei seems indifferent to it, though recognizes that Kembu is on a noble path.
    • Kembu inquired about his curse blade. Borei shared a little about the history of Oni's. He believed that part of the Oni's spirit now resided in the sword, and as such, that the sword as out of balance. With each life the sword claimed, the Oni's influence would grow.
    • Borei revealed that he would seek out a charm from the Wylds to help bring balance back to the blade. He would contact Kembu once he found it.
  • Niklas presented a deal to the group on behalf of Gwen Morrison. Defeat the remaining Olympians and deliver them to Gwen. With the evidence acquired from them, she could prove Roan's innocence.
    • Setter demanded that the group receive additional compensation; a bounty for each head, along with the belongings of the Olympians. Niklas agreed.
  • Death Otter decided to interrogate Aphrodite. Setter watched.
    • By reading Aphrodite's thoughts, and by leading her on, Death Otter was able to learn that there was an underground tunnel in the Treant Theater that lead to Sector Six (the off limits, testing district). It connects to a specific warehouse, where Aphrodite believes Athena to be hidden.
    • Athena attempted to thwart Otter's attempts, but Otter kept one step ahead of her.
    • Athena vowed that her father would kill the group. Otter briefly got images of an imposing tiefling that could command fire, lightning, and thunder.
    • Setter managed to get out of Aphrodite that Pandora's Box was a code name for sensitive information; information that could change the world.
    • Setter couldn't also stop himself from mocking Aphrodite before leaving; leaving the Olympian with a grudge...
  • The group rested, then, and prepared for the next day's work...
    • In the early morning, Otter and Managirl snuck away, having an intimate experience with each other.
    • Aria and Kembu also shared some time together; but in a way more befitting of potential siblings.
    • Niklas claimed that he would be monitoring the group from afar... he left them a cell phone to contact him with once they secured the box.
  • The group made it to the convention...
    • Setter, Aria, and Managirl cosplayed as different characters. Kembu, Otter, and Roan did not.
    • The group went to the gaming hall and began to search for their target: Prometheus. Through a combination of different skills and lucks, the group ultimately was able to contact Prometheus on the phone, in which Setter offered him a deal he couldn't refuse.
    • Prometheus revealed that he was selling an 'ornate box' that functioned as a flash drive that contained information regarding sensitive passwords and sensitive information regarding Genesis including top secret projects as well as the truth behind the foundation of Genesis.
    • Roan also discovered the potential buyer... Nacht in disguise.
    • With Setter sealing the deal, he unfortunately found himself on the receiving end of another ambush...
  • Demeter, sister of Zeus, deva, and former first class ROGUE agent, descended upon the group with her team of ninjas and animated knives...
    • Combat broke out, as it inevitably does...
    • With Roan blowing his cover, Nacht struck him in the throat and used that confusion to cover his escape; blending into the ground. Though, Nacht's role might not yet be over, as Prometheus has something he wants... Roan had to take a second wind to recover from the cheap shot.
    • Otter opened up the battle with making a few of the baddies feel an annoying, painful itch.
    • Kembu landed a painful, harmful blow against Demeter; he discovered that his blade was start to get a mind of its own, and it wanted blood...
    • Setter attempted to hinder Demeter; but it didn't go as he planned.
    • Demeter revealed that she could shapeshift; briefly transforming into Managirl. She landed a wound on Kembu and Managirl both; fighting with a ninja-to.
    • Aria tried to get involved, but found that the animated knives had a nasty habit of pinning people to the ground. As a result, she 'killed' one.
    • The dangerous ninjas attacked. One bloodied Kembu, three others nearly killed Setter, and the fifth missed Aria and got WTFPWNED by her.
    • Managirl bloodies one of the ninja's with her power; and manages to land a wound against Demeter as well. She unleashes explosive magic!
    • The various animated flying daggers sought out targets; some having luck, others not so much.
    • Demeter, with advanced alacrity, made a quick strike against Otter, and then followed it up by tumbling over towards Setter and trying to take him down for good. Luckily, she missed against him. She then disappeared in a smoke bomb.
    • Prometheus managed to destroy one of the daggers attacking him; displaying a strange magnetic ability (that turned his hand to metal when he used it).
  • Next time, round two...
Current Objectives:
  • Complete Gwen Morrison's Deal: The group's innocence in the parade's assassination in exchange for defeating the Olympians (4/12).
  • Complete the Middleman's Third Job: Recover Pandora's Box for Rickenato.
  • Receive the Middleman's Answers.
  • Pursue Personal Goals.
    • Roan: Defeat Nacht.
    • Setter: Eliminate those who destroyed your past life.
    • Kembu: Save the girl.
    • Managirl: Find yourself.
    • Aria: Reunite your family.
    • Del: Save the world.

Session 35 - R&R At The Arcade

Key Points:
  • With the help of Niklas, the group was able to escape the Brawl without security intervening themselves. Niklas took the group to a Genesis safe house: an abandoned arcade.
    • At the arcade, Paul took Emily's corpse into one of the side offices. Roan checked on him and the two made sure that they were on good terms; Paul assuring Roan that he would keep his secret safe.
    • Roan found it harder to negotiate with Niklas; as his superior was unknown. However, Niklas assured that he would at least go to Morrison with this information as well as his superior.
  • On a radio in the arcade, the group heard Hannah's new single: Paper Boats. The song seemed to be about always finding your loved ones, as if it were fate and nothing could stop it.
    • Aria recalled the lyrics of the song being something her father would sing to her for lullabies.
    • Kembu recalled the lyrics as well from his childhood; recalling one of the girls who would sing it to him sometime.
    • The two speculated that Hannah might be their mother; or at least have some connection to their past given that this is a new song and those lyrics don't have any basis in other folk lore.
  • Aphrodite was knocked out with some ether and a rag.
    • Otter speculated that the group might be able to get Aphrodite to sell out Athena; in exchange for freedom.
    • Niklas said letting Aphrodite go wasn't an option; but Otter just insisted that they could deceive her. Additionally, she believed that she could follow her remotely in hopes of gaining additional intel. However, this is dangerous, as it is likely that Aphrodite will resist again if she believed she had a good chance of winning.
    • Niklas informed that he would need an hour to get in touch with his contacts in order to determine how to proceed with Aphrodite.
  • Niklas agreed to work with the party...
    • He refused to reveal classified information on what Pandora's Box might be. He does not believe it to be the item of legend, but rather something of Genesis interest. If it was the item of legend, he believes it would be above his paygrade, and he couldn't say how interested Genesis would be in it.
    • He said that he would follow the lead of the party going forward in recovering Pandora's Box, though it was made clear between the two parties that betrayal might be inevitable if they could not come to terms with what to do with the Box.
  • Gnoll agreed to work with Setter...
    • Setter owes Gnoll two fights. One fight is so that Gnoll can bet on Setter and make a lot of money. Second fight is against Gnoll; because he wants to see if he can beat Setter.
    • Gnoll revealed that Prometheus was a friend of his; a human male who was an alcoholic and possible drug addict. Prometheus lost a lot of money at the Brawl due to his gambling. When he came into possession of an item that was 'hot' and that he needed to unload to the right buyer, Gnoll used what little technical know-how he had to set Prometheus up online with a buyer.
    • Gnoll claimed that the 'deal' was going down at The Convention which was a hosting for anime, video games, comic books, movies, music, and other forms of entertainment.
    • He showed the group a picture of Prometheus and claimed that the man would not dress up to hide his identity, however, the buyer might. The buyer's identity is unknown except to Prometheus. Gnoll thinks the deal is going down in the video games hall, but has no additional information beyond that.
    • When all was said and done with, Gnoll parted ways from the group. He wasn't too keen to be in a Genesis hideout and he had some extra coin burning in his pockets, however. Though he seemed to give good information, you would hope that he wouldn't warn Prometheus...
  • The group had the information they needed to pursue Rickenato's goal of owning Pandora's Box; though it isn't heartening to know that Genesis and the Olympians are both after it. The group decided to rest at the safe house where many conversations were had...
    • Kembu revealed his 'secret' to Setter; the hengeyokai agreeing to keep it safe. The two seemed to be on good terms with one another by the end of the conversation.
    • Roan and Setter also seemed to be on good terms; leaving to get food and bring it back for the group. Both spoke of wanting revenge; Roan knowing that he was being played while Setter suspecting that he might be as well.
    • Setter revealed more or less that his old life was 'ruined' by someone and that his former team had been wiped out as a result. He plans on taking a surgical approach rather than a nuclear one to those who were involved.
    • Aria would partially reveal her past to Kembu and some of the others. She was raised by her father who was often away on business. He enlisted a hengeyokai master (Kyou) who was often cruel to Aria. Her only interest is reuniting her family together; which is why she has sought out her brother, Kembu.
    • Managirl expressed her insecurities to Otter; who seemed to try to dispense advice while also mocking her on some level. The two went back and forth on a number of topics... porn, video games, boys...etc. much to the chagrin of Aria and Roan, but to the amusement of Setter.
    • Otter spoke on her background; having come from an affluent family. She used her father to purchase a SEED and then modified it heavily herself. With her eyes opened from the SEED, she went 'black' and dropped out of her old life.
    • Setter came to an accord with both Aria and Otter. He briefly talked about his own SEED, something that had an A.I. built in to assist him, rather than using it like a traditional Freediver.
    • Managirl and Kembu went on a walk; Kembu wanting to check if his master left him a message at Lisa Trent's house. During the way, they had the 'break-up' talk; with Kembu display his non-interest in an intimate way with Managirl. The teen girl didn't take it too well, ultimately seemed accepting...
  • Next time...
    • Otter, Setter, and Roan get to try and 'crack' Aphrodite...
    • Aria continues her night time ride on her motorcycle...
    • Kembu and Managirl get to find a message at Lisa's house...
Current Objectives:
  • Complete the Middleman's Third Job: Recover Pandora's Box for Rickenato.
  • Receive the Middleman's Answers.
  • Defeat the Olympians (Four of Twelve defeated).
  • Defeat Nacht.
  • Prove Roan's (and the group's) innocence.

Olympian Artifacts [Terra Nullius Lore + Items]

-------------

Lore:

Only ancient scholars know the origins of the term Olympians. It refers to an ancient pantheon of deities that were worshiped long ago on Terra Nullius. The people of Terra Nullius have seen many pantheons come and go; very few stay. Whether the deities are truly alive, or have died, or are reborn in some way is a manner of great speculation.

However, in the current world, the word Olympians refers to a group of mercenaries. The Olympians have had many incarnations over hundreds of years with members joining, leaving, or being killed in action. The Olympians started out as little more than an adventuring party in the Barbarian Days of Ezra. However, as Genesis began to form and develop, the Olympians were quickly hired and brought on to the corporation.

Typically, descendents of the original Olympians would join the group as their predecessor left. The family that was heavily involved in the Olympians claimed to be from the blood of the pantheon that they named themselves after. The Olympians shared a good relationship with Genesis for a long time despite conducting missions for other organizations on the side (it wasn't an 'exclusive' relationship).

The Olympians were largely kept out of Genesis reports except for highly classified ones. Genesis did not like attributing any of the Olympian's activities to their corporation due to the 'black ops' nature of many of the Olympian's missions. All in all, the Olympians would have been bad PR for Genesis. Many people within Genesis themselves viewed the Olympians as little more than rabid dogs.

The most recent incarnation of the Olympians had a falling out with Genesis around the time the organization known as EARTHQUAKE was formed. It is believed that the Olympians helped the founders of EARTHQUAKE acquire the necessary resources they needed to get started and running. Since then, the Olympians have exclusively worked with EARTHQUAKE over Genesis.

The reason for the fallout between the Olympians and Genesis is currently unknown to the Runners, but may be revealed as the arc goes on. However, each Olympian is in possession of a powerful artifact that has survived throughout the ages. These artifacts were originally gifts to the Olympians from Genesis' first founders.

For details regarding specific Olympians, please refer to this: Pandora's Box NPCs.

-------------

Artifact Rules:

-You must have the artifact actively equipped to benefit from its properties. For example, you cannot benefit from the properties associated with Hephaestus' Hammer unless you are actively wielding it. This is to prevent one PC from loading up on artifacts, having them sit in their backpack, and benefiting from them.

-Due to the special nature of these items, there is no room for negotiations on changing or adapting them mechanically. You cannot turn Hephaestus' Hammer into a sword for example. It is, and shall always be, a hammer. There are enough items available that everyone should be able to find at least one thing they're interested in having. The rest of the items, you'll have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone to fully use and appreciate.

-There is, however, room for the 'flavor' of the item to change and adapt. The artifacts are semi-sentient in that they mold to the attitude and behavior of the wielder. As such, the PC wielding the artifact may choose to change certain cosmetic aspects of their item. For example, Dionysus' Goblet can be made to look like a fancy sports bottle or Hermes' Sandal can be made to look like a pair of sneakers.

-I've decided to NOT do a set bonus. The artifacts are powerful enough already and although the Olympians worked together as a team, the artifacts were around long before them and had little to no direct ties to one another.

-------------

Hephaestus' Hammer [Artifact, Weapon]
This mighty hammer is made of mithral and adamantine swirled together. Once a great artifact of the dwarven nation of Montezuma, it has since been modified over time to embrace developments in mana-technology; losing its original identity in the process. The mana-core within the weapon glows a bright teal and hums with its own anima.

-Property: Hephaestus' Hammer has an enhancement bonus that is +1 higher than the wielder's current attack/damage inherent enhancement bonus.
-Property: Hephaestus' Hammer can take the shape of any weapon from the hammer or mace group. The wielder can shift between weapon types as a minor action. By default, it is normally a warhammer.
-Property: Hephaestus' Hammer grants the wielder a +2 bonus to charisma ability and skill checks against dwarves, halflings, gnomes, and muls.
-Property: Hephaestus' Hammer deals +5 extra damage against objects and constructs.
-Property: Hephaestus' Hammer allows the wielder to identify the origin and properties of any weapon or armor that he or she can see. This would allow the wielder to know the manufacturer of a gun just by looking at it.
-Power Daily (Free Action): Gain a +10 power bonus to all melee damage rolls made with Hephaestus' Hammer until the start of your next turn.

-------------

Aphrodite's Necklace [Artifact, Neck]
With a chain of mithril and an aquamarine gemstone cut in the shape of a sea shell, this dazzling necklace is a beauty to behold. Once a famous eladrin heirloom, the necklace was lost to the world by a royal family that was vain enough to dismiss this gift as junk. The necklace seems to accentuate the wearer's neckline and face.

-Property: Aphrodite's Necklace has an enhancement bonus that is +1 higher than the wielder's current defenses inherent enhancement bonus.
-Property: Aphrodite's Necklace grants the wearer an item bonus to Charisma-based ability and skill checks equal to their current necklace inherent enhancement bonus.
-Property: Aphrodite's Necklace allows the wielder to identify a creature's sexual preferences and ideal notion of romantic love. This would allow the wielder to know what excites a creature or what it would take for them to fall in love.
-Property: Enemies take a -2 penalty to saving throws against the wearer's charm powers and effects.
-Power Daily (Minor Action): You or one adjacent creature can make a saving throw against each effect on it, even if the effect doesn't normally allow for a saving throw. The target can also spend a healing surge.

-------------

Hermes' Sandals [Artifact, Feet]
These airy, corded foot coverings are crafted from leather and material from the turtle island of Musashi. Thought to be enchanted by the long lost fey, these sandals have white, feathery wings on the outsides of them. No one who has left the hengeyokai's island remembers the story behind these sandals.

-Property: Hermes' Sandals grants the wearer a +2 item bonus to speed.
-Property: Hermes' Sandals grants the wearer a fly speed equal to their land speed with altitude limit 1.
-Property: Hermes' Sandals allow the wearer to take no damage from a fall and always land on their feet.
-Property: Hermes' Sandals allow the wielder to always know how to get to an address or a specific location as long as the description isn't abstract. This would allow the wielder to know how to get to 123 Fake Street, but not how to get to where Joe Schmo currently is.
-Power Daily (Minor Action): Use this power during your turn to take a move action.

***CLAIMED BY: Managirl.***

-------------

Dionysus' Goblet [Artifact, Implement: Ki Focus]
This golden goblet is encrusted with beautiful amethysts shaped to look like crowns. This goblet was once the drinking cup of the infamous lich Larrak the Reborn; however, it was stolen from him by the ambitious assassin Daniel after Larrak's defeat. Daniel, renowned for his debauchery, gave a new meaning to this once dark artifact. Once, it represented the the faux-kingdom of Larrak. Now, the goblet is a symbol of being the king of your own freedom, pleasure, and merrymaking.

-Property: Dionysus' Goblet has an enhancement bonus that is +1 higher than the wielder's current attack/damage inherent enhancement bonus.
-Property: Any attack you make with Dionysus' Goblet against a target granting combat advantage to you deals extra necrotic damage to that target. The damage equals the wielder's current inherent attack/damage enhancement bonus.
-Property: Dionysus' Goblet grants the wielder necrotic and radiant resistance 10.
-Property: As a standard action, you command Dionysus' Goblet to fill with the alcoholic beverage of your choice. Beer? Of course. Wine? You bet. Something stronger and fancier? As you wish. Whatever alcoholic drink the wielder wants, the Goblet provides. Any alcohol made in this way must be consumed within the period of a short rest; otherwise, it evaporates.
-Property: Dionysus' Goblet allows the wielder to know the location of the nearest revelry. The Goblet does not allow the wearer to detect smaller gatherings; but rather points them to the nearest, loudest, coolest party. Additionally, the Goblet places the name of the wielder on every VIP list imaginable; an all-access path to the hottest clubs and fanciest balls. This allows the wielder access to any party environment, but not to other areas that are typically off-access such as a top-secret government facility.
-Power Daily (Minor Action): Your next attack this turn is made against the target's lowest defense.

-------------

Poseidon's Trident [Artifact, Weapon]
This three-pronged trident is shaped from cold iron and is said to be capable of cutting through the toughest armors with ease. Through extended use in the water, the weapon has taken on a blue-silver sheen to it. Over time, bits and pieces of the weapon have been modified with technology from Genesis engineers; resulting in a glowing mana-core in the weapon's shaft and a high-frequency adapter. In days long past, Poseidon's Trident is believed to have originally been wielded by a thri-kreen named Dust-Bar-Aka in the war against The Red Hand of Doom.

-Property: Poseidon's Trident has an enhancement bonus that is +1 higher than the wielder's current attack/damage inherent enhancement bonus.

Artemis' Bow [Artifact, Weapon]
Once the longbow of a famous elven Arcane Archer known as David, Artemis' Bow was once a majestic weapon crafted from dragon bone and sinew off of a kill that David made with his infamous Arrow of Death. Since then, it has been adapated to modern times by gears, chromes, springs, and other bits of technology. While the bone has taken a back seat to the metal, the mana-core of the weapon glows with the crimson fury of the red dragon that it was made from.

Once chosen, the prey may not be changed until the next full moon or until the prey has been successfully hunted, whichever comes first. Artemis' Bow tells the wielder in which cardinal direction the nearest prey is located, relative to the wielder, but does not include the distance or exact location. Also, the wielder of Artemis' Bow always knows what phase the moon is in, even if the moon is not visible.

--Trigger: An enemy hits you with a melee attack.
--Effect: You teleport a number of squares equal to your speed. After the teleport, you then make a ranged basic attack with this weapon against the triggering enemy.

The pair had simple goals; Ciel wanting to spread joy in the world while Rufus one day dreamed of winning the Reach Run; an athletic event on the island of Musashi. Rufus would protect Ciel with blade and bow while Ciel would support Rufus with magic from his lyre. Ares' Sword [Artifact, Weapon]
Generation after generation, Ares' Sword fell into the hands of paladins and blackguards alike. This blade has been used by both forces of good and evil; though it was originally a weapon of the famed paladin Craig who conquered many dangers and woed many maidens. Unlike many of the artifacts, Ares' Sword has not changed once since the day it was forged. The hilt of the blade is carved from the bones of a red dragon while the steel is forged from adamantium. The magical runes covering the steel shape and change to identify with the wielder's beliefs; often displaying their holy symbol or sigil of choice.

-Property: Ares' Sword has an enhancement bonus that is +1 higher than the wielder's current attack/damage inherent enhancement bonus.
-Property: Ares' Sword can take the shape of any weapon from the light blade or heavy blade group. The wielder can shift between weapon types as a minor action. When the item was first found, it was a longsword.

-Property: When the wielder of Ares' Sword is bloodied, the wielder deals +1d6 damage when he hits with Ares' Sword. This bonus increases to +2d6 at level 14 and to +3d6 at level 24.
-Property: Ares' Sword allows the wielder to know where the nearest combat encounter is taking place and the general direction to that encounter. A combat encounter is defined as a battle between two sides; it is not defined as someone hurting a helpless person. Ares' Sword can also direct the wielder to the general location of a worthy opponent should the wielder actively seek a conflict to test his might.
-Power Daily (Minor Action): You are considered bloodied for all purposes until the end of your next turn.

Athena's Wisdom [Artifact, Implement: SEED]
Perhaps out of all the artifacts, Athena's Wisdom has changed the most. In its original incarnation, Athena's Wisdom is thought to have been a sphere of annihilation. The sphere and the control talisman associated with it changed hands over the course of the history; either being used by evil or sealed away by good. Eventually, the sphere was lost to time, but the talisman remained. That talisman would become the case that housed the first SEED ever created: Athena's Wisdom. Though it changed brains several times to the deaths of its users, Athena's Wisdom eventually ended up in the brain of one of the greatest freedivers ever: Athena.

-Property: Athena's Wisdom has an enhancement bonus that is +1 higher than the wielder's current attack/damage inherent enhancement bonus.
-Property: Athena's Wisdom grants the wearer an item bonus to Intelligence-based ability and skill checks equal to their current implement inherent enhancement bonus.

Zeus' Thunderbolt [Artifact, Hands/Weapon]
Zeus' Thunderbolt has origins that trace back to ancient times all the way to a little girl named Loki. She had been a halfling trained in ninjutsu and she was wrongly imprisoned inside the World's Largest Dungeon by a mad royal family. In the depths of the dungeon, she had discovered an ancient pair of gloves; one crafted by a celestial (white leather) and one crafted by a fiend (black leather) with lightning and thunderbolts etched onto each glove. The celestial glove granted her the speed of lightning while the fiendish glove granted her the strength of thunder. With it, she became a potent force and with the help of her companions, escaped the World's Largest Dungeon. When the group parted ways from the dungeon, Loki went on to innovate many ninjutsu arts that the hengeyokai still use to this day.

-Property: Zeus' Thunderbolt has an enhancement bonus that is +1 higher than the wielder's current attack/damage inherent enhancement bonus.
-Property: When used as a weapon, Zeus' Thunderbolt functions as the monk's unarmed strike feature (simple one-handed melee weapon, proficient +3, damage 1d8, off-hand, unarmed weapon group). The wielder can use Zeus' Thunderbolt as an implement.

Session 34 - The Brawl Turns Ugly

Key Points:
  • Round two began against Aphrodite and Hephaestus...
    • Kembu killed one of the lunatic dwarves with a sword strike.
    • The remaining lunatic dwarves began weaving nightmares to plague the minds of the party.
    • As this was Aria's first real fight, she had some difficulty attacking Hephaestus.
    • Unsure of who to target, Paul the KNIGHT decided to engage Kembu in hopes of keeping him away from Gnoll. Aria decided to intervene; taking a strike that was meant for her brother.
    • Roan called Paul out on attacking civilians; though Paul pointed out that the group appeared to have started the fight. With some convincing, however, Paul decided to align his goals with Roan: the KNIGHT agreeing to focus on the Olympians.
    • Death Otter arrived on the battle scene; weaving her diving mojo against several of the dwarves.
    • Niklas seemed to have a different agenda than Paul and Emily. The ROGUE agent used a taser to disable Gnoll and sought to capture the tiefling. Much to the objection of Setter.
    • Aphrodite worked her enchantment spells against Managirl; burning the girl's psyche. Aphrodite tried to engage Aria in hand-to-hand, but failed to land a strike.
    • Setter forced Niklas to drop Gnoll; firing at the ROGUE with an enchanted bullet. He also managed to take care of Managirl's and Kembu's severe wounds.
    • Managirl's frustration began as Aphrodite had a knack for avoiding the superhero's attacks. However, she did land a blow against one of the lunatic dwarves.
    • Roan managed to keep Hephaestus busy by firing on him with his sniper rifle.
    • Emily the MAGE, who found herself dazed, could do little to aid in the combat this round...
  • Round three...
    • Kembu managed to bloody one of the remaining lunatic dwarves.
    • The lunatic dwarves continued weaving painful, magic nightmare attacks against the party.
    • Aria attempted to engage Aphrodite, but found the Olympian to be elusive.
    • Death Otter continued to lend support; attempting to burn the minds of the dwarves near Kembu.
    • Just as Gnoll was going to recover, Niklas stomped his head in to knock him unconscious.
    • Aria found herself having to choose between death and serving Aphrodite. She choose temporary servitude. Damn enchantresses. Aphrodite then teleported away, bloodying Emily with an enchanted touch.
    • The reinforcement of the dwarves split themselves up. Three attacked Niklas; attempting to gain control of Gnoll. The other six fired upon Paul the KNIGHT.
    • Paul found himself attempting to engage Aphrodite, but the woman was elusive.
    • Setter created an opening for Kembu to dispatch one of the remaining lunatic dwarves. Then, the hengeyokai took out the six reinforcement dwarves that had been attacking Paul with a lightning infused hail of auto-fire.
    • Managirl killed the remaining Lunatic Dwarf with some impressive mana-bending skills, though Aphrodite continued to elude the superhero's attempts.
    • Roan forced him to continue to keep Hephaestus busy; fearing the dwarf's wrath. He was assisted by Emily who regained her senses; creating an arcane garrote wire to choke the life out of the Olympian.
  • Round four...
    • Kembu tried to engage Aphrodite, but he soon found out the frustration most of the party was experiencing. The Olympian was difficult to pin down; avoiding the samurai's attacks.
    • Aphrodite who had Aria under her spell forced the sister to attack the brother. Despite Kembu's attempt to stop Aria's strike, the the girl found herself forced to hurt the person she had come to find.
    • Paul tried to intervene, but found himself thwarted by Aphrodite as well.
    • Not even Otter's hack attack could keep the Olympian down!
    • Kembu felt the pain of Aphrodite's enchantment attack; it nearly bringing him to the brink of death.
    • The rest of the minion dwarves were killed by Niklas and Managirl throughout the round.
    • Setter failed to hit Niklas; Managirl failed to hit Aphrodite.
    • Roan shot Hephaestus again, but it wasn't enough to keep the dwarf stunned. Bloodied, dazed, and mad, the dwarf yanked Emily off of his back and smashed her head in with a hammer. With the MAGE killed, Hephaestus swore to end Roan.
  • ROUND FIVE!!!!!!1111one....
    • Kembu landed one of the first major strikes against Aphrodite; bloodying the Olympian.
    • Aria capitalized as well, placing Aphrodite into a submission hold and holding a sword to her throat.
    • Paul attempted to gain revenge for the killing of Emily, but Hephaestus kept the KNIGHT at bay.
    • Otter decided to hack Aria's brain, forcing the Vanguard to severely injured Aphrodite (almost killing her).
    • Niklas held a gun to Gnoll's head; attempting to hold him hostage and negotiate. Roan managed to talk him down; agreeing to work with Niklas in exchange for both sides receiving information.
    • Setter provided an opening for Managirl to strike Hephaestus. She followed it up with an attack of her own; nearly killing the Olympian.
    • That honor, however, would go to Roan, who sniped Hephaestus in the head to finish him.
  • With combat over, Niklas and Paul seek to lead Gnoll and the party to a hideout nearby. This will allow them to interrogate both Gnoll and Aphrodite. Emily's and Hephaestus' corpses were taken with...

Session 33 - Battles at Bulette's Brawl

Key Points:
  • Mei-Xing parted ways from the group for the time being... another job, another life, calling her attention. She left on good terms; so it might be possible that she'll cross path with the Runners again someday.
  • Death Otter decided to get a leg-up on the competition by doing some 'decking' work. She informed the group that she'll meet up with them after she's done.
  • The group went to Bulette's Brawl...
    • An underground fight arena conducted in an abandoned factory, Bulette's Brawl draws a huge crowd of people.
    • Due to it being the group's first night; they either had to place a bet on a match or participate in a match themselves.
    • Managirl decided to do some Mana-Bending. Her opponent was Kenku, an eccentric halfling who took on a raven-man persona. It was a close match, but in the end, Managirl won through brute force.
    • Setter decided on some hand-to-hand combat. He was set up against a dwarven luchador named El Chupacabra. Chupacabra didn't land a single hit against Setter; the hengeyokai using his magic to disguise his melee attacks.
    • Roan kept the tradition up for the Runners winning. He entered a hunting competition against a drow named Abasi. Despite Abasi trying to take Roan out of the competition, the hengeyokai was able to thwart Abasi and score the killing blow against a young bulette.
  • While at Bulette's Brawl, Kembu was approached by a young girl named Aria Jager, though she preferred the name Aria Mokin.
    • The girl claimed to be Kembu's sister. She revealed details that her father knew who Kembu was; even having pictures of him. Additionally, she mentioned that their father, Mr. Jager, was interested in reuniting their family.
    • Kembu didn't quite believe it; though, he seemed to be coming around when Aria mentioned Watchdog and Lisa Trent.
    • The pair ended up joining a joint competition; a destruction derby. The pair had to compete against two barbarians; Destroyer and Smasher. Aria was eliminated first, though Kembu was able to defeat both Destroyer and Smasher in an escalating competition of who could destroy the hardest object.
  • The Runners won some gold through placing bets on one another and earned prizes through Bulette's Brawl.
  • Setter, after finishing his competition, managed to track down Gnoll.
    • Gnoll met the group at the bar. Gnoll seemed nice enough, though he was quiet and reserved. Gnoll and Setter striked a deal; Gnoll would tell what he knew about the Pandora's Box deal in exchange for Setter coming back and winning another match; essentially allowing for Gnoll to make a tidy profit.
    • However, just as the deal concluded, something bad happened...
  • Gnoll and the group were approached by a dark haired woman; later revealed to be Aphrodite (a member of the Olympians).
    • Aphrodite attempted to charm Gnoll away from the others with an enchantment spell, but the group was firm in defending their new information source.
    • Little time was wasted; combat soon breaking out...
    • Aphrodite was supported by a small army of dwarves. The majority of them were thugs with warhammers and handguns. However, three of them seemed to have a dark link with the Goddess known as The Lunatic. They were capable of using sinister magics to transmute and teleport.
    • The leader of the dwarves and Aphrodite's 'boo' was Hephaestus. A powerful, muscular dwarf.
    • However, the Olympians and the Runners weren't the only factors at play. Three Genesis members had been present at Bulette's Brawl all night. Whether they were off duty or purposefully undercover to try to find Gnoll or Aphrodite is unclear. The Genesis group consisted of a KNIGHT, a MAGE, and a ROGUE.
  • And so, chaos erupted in the crowd... some people fled, some people actually cheered on and watched the live fighting, and security would undoubtedly get involved at some point...
    • Kembu made the first strike; attempting to hit Aphrodite. However, Gnoll took the hit for her, provoked by the enchantment against him.
    • Kembu then led the strike against the dwarves; killing a henchman.
    • Gnoll was commanded to find his way amongst the crowd of dwarves, though soon broke free of the enchantment on him.
    • One of the Lunatic's shot Setter with a handgun after switching positions with Kembu through a teleportation spell. The other two double teamed Kembu with flesh-to-stone transmutations.
    • Aria joined the fray to aid her brother; focusing on one of the lunatic's and using a combination of swordplay and martial arts.
    • The KNIGHT proceeded to get closer to the fray; not yet choosing a target.
    • The ROGUE used the opportunity to get lost in the crowd and hide himself.
    • Aphrodite attempted to enchant Roan; failing to do so. A spell against Setter though kept him from attacking her directly, so long as none of her allies attacked Setter.
    • The dwarven thugs whooped on Gnoll and Kembu with their warhammers.
    • Setter enhanced Managirl's staff; then unleashed a round of automatic fire. He killed two of the dwarven thugs.
    • Managirl managed to heal Kembu with some soothing mana water, then unleashed a powerful whirlwind strike with her staff against Aphrodite.
    • Roan landed a head shot against Hephaestus; stunning him.
    • The MAGE joined the fray by teleporting Gnoll out of the chaos of combat, then by killing one of the dwarven thugs with a concussive arcane force neck snap.
  • ...the battle continues next time...
Loot:
  • Roan, Managirl, and Setter each respectively made some gold through placing bets on the Runner's competition. The amounts varied based on the odds and the amount of money.
  • Roan, Managirl, Setter, and Kembu each received a magic item level 6 or lower of their choice. The magic item had to be of a specific item slot that was dependent upon a roll they made.

Current Objectives:
  • Complete the Middleman's Third Job: Recover Pandora's Box for Rickenato.
  • Receive the Middleman's Answers.
  • Defeat the Olympians (Two of Twelve defeated).
  • Defeat Nacht.
  • Prove Roan's (and the group's) innocence.
